Giornate

A fresco is painted in patches called giornate, one day's plaster each, and if you know where to look you can see where one day stopped and the next began.

Each brooch here is two or three of those days: fields of lime white, ochre and green earth fired separately and joined on a raised silver seam. Pinned on a coat, it reads as a piece of wall that came with you.
