Under most frescoes there is a drawing in red earth called the sinopia, made on the rough plaster before the final coat hid it. Restorers find them when they lift a painting off the wall.
I draw with a steel needle through unfired sinopia enamel, so the copper shows in the line, and fire it once. There is no correcting a line.
